Adding a Data-Driven Component to a Web Application

After you create a Web application, you can add a data-driven component by either creating a new or importing an existing DataWindow library. A data-driven component provides a graphical interface to a database, which allows the Web application to provide real-time data. To add a data-driven component, you must enable Sybase DataWindow component support, add the DataWindow project nature, and create a DataWindow managed bean in your project.

To add a data-driven component:

Do one of the following:
- Add the data-driven component to an existing Web Application project.
- Create a new Web Application project.
  In the New Web Application Project wizard, select to create a blank project and add DataWindow component support.
Do any of the following:
Add the DataWindow project nature.
Configure a DataWindow library list.
Create a DataWindow managed bean.
Create a Web page.
1. Add a control from the Palette to the Web page.
2. Define property values for the control.
3. (Optional) Change the appearance of the control.
4. Add the DataWindow object to the Web page.
5. Review and edit the DataWindow object properties.
6. Bind the DataWindow managed bean to the DataWindow object in the Web page.
7. (Optional) Preview the Web page.
8. Save the Web page.
9. Test the Web page.
10. Repeat step 6 a-i to create additional Web pages.
Complete the faces-config xml file configuration.
Complete the web.xml file configuration.
(Optional) Add a server-side event to the DataWindow.
(Optional) Add a client-side event to the DataWindow.
Create a Web application navigation flow.
(Optional) View the source.
Deploy the Web application.
Test the linked pages in the Web application flow.
