Generating and Editing Mobile Templates

You can generate mobile templates for the various types of devices (PDA, Blackberry, WAP-HTML, and WAP-WML), as well as for the Dashboard. Once generated, you can complete the options that define the mobile template, or accept the default settings. You can edit a mobile template at any time.

When you deploy mobile applications to a mobile device such as a PDA, or BlackBerry device, the device displays the embedded data in grid form. When you edit the mobile template, you can alter the appearance of these grids. The mobile template editor includes options for presenting data on the device, including various color schemes, number of rows to display on each page, and so on.

Generating a new mobile template

  1. Select File|New|Template. The New Mobile Template wizard displays.

  2. Complete these fields:

    • Connection Profile – select the Unwired Accelerator server connection on which the template is generated and stored.

    • Template Name – enter a name for the new template. For example, you might want to name a template "2-4 Basic" if you plan to assign this template to a mobile application that contains two columns and four elements.

    • Status – select the template's status. You can only assign templates that have the status "Approved" to mobile applications.

    • Type – select from HTML, HELP, JSP, or XSL. See Template Types for more information.

  3. Click Finish to exit the window. The mobile template editor displays. You have created a blank template

  4. Select the device type to associate with this mobile template by clicking one of the generate template icons in the toolbar. Move your cursor over each of the icons for a description of the template it generates. Selecting a device type generates a default mobile template for that device type. Once saved, you cannot change the device type. If you edit the mobile template, you can modify various properties and fields, but not the device type.

At this point, the procedures for generating the mobile template and editing the mobile template are the same. See the topic that corresponds to the type of mobile template you are generating or editing:

  5. Complete the options for the new or edited mobile template, and click OK.

  6. Select File|Save As and name your new mobile template, or File|Save to save an existing mobile template.
