Performing Postinstallation Tasks

After you install the RAP core components, complete these steps.

1. Activating Your SySAM RAPCache License
   Activate your SySAM license after you obtain the license file and install RAP on your host machine.
2. Activating Your SySAM RAPStore License
   Activate your SySAM license after you obtain the license file and install RAP on your host machine.
3. Loading the Sample Data into RAPCache
   Load the sample data into the RAPCache database.
4. Unsetting Environment Variable JRE_HOME
   To resolve a Java version problem, users who have Java 1.4 or an earlier version installed as the default JVM must unset environment variable JRE_HOME.
5. Adjusting the Named rapTAQcache Data Cache Size in the RAPCache
   Adjust the size of the named rapTAQcache data cache to use as much memory as is available on the system running Adaptive Server Enterprise.
6. Configuring the RAPCache to Use an In-Memory Database
   If you can fit your entire database in memory, you may manually configure RAPCache to use an in-memory database (IMDB).
7. Adjusting the Number of Locks in the RAPCache
   Use sp_configure to ensure that the number of locks in RAPCache is greater than the number of locks required by the RAPCache subscriber or other applications that may query the data.
8. Starting the RAPCache Server
   After you install the core components and activate your SySAM license, restart the RAPCache server.
9. Verify that All Servers are Running
   After you start RAPCache, verify that your servers are running and that you can connect to the servers.
10. Database Customization Tasks
    You may need to customize the system by adding new columns and tables.
11. Configuring High-Speed Transfer of Derived Data
    Set up transfer and truncation of derived data in the RAPCache and RAPStore.
12. Configuring a Scalability Environment
    Perform these steps when running a scalability environment.
13. Enabling Incremental Transfer in RAPCache Tables
    Enable RAPCache tables for incremental transfer.
14. Managing Servers with Sybase Central
    Sybase Central, a management console for Sybase products, lets you manage multiple servers from a single location, and perform complex administration tasks without using the Transact-SQL commands or system stored procedures.
15. Installing Client Tools
    To connect to RAP databases, you must install the appropriate tools on each client machine.
16. Setting the File Descriptor Value for Solaris
    Set the number of file descriptors to unlimited once the installation is complete.
17. Disabling the RAPCache Trace Flag 4816
    (Optional) When the trace flag 4816 is enabled for the RAPCache, there are certain operations that should not be performed on the tables involved in the bulk transfers. Disable the trace flag if you wish to perform these operations.
