Chapter 3 Basic Repository Tasks

Using the Extract Document window

The Extract Document window lets you specify the document to be extracted and set extraction parameters:

You can arrive at this window in any of the following ways:

The Extract Document window contains two groupboxes, which allow you to specify details of the repository document, and the file to which it will be extracted.

Document in repository

The Document in repository groupbox contains the following parameters:

Parameter Description
Name Specifies the name of the document to be extracted from the repository.
Version Specifies the version of the document to extract.
Packages [PowerDesigner models only] Click the button to open a package selection dialog box in which you can select packages rather than extracting the entire model.
Extract dependencies Specifies that external shortcut and generation link dependencies information is extracted

If you do not select this option then information on the Dependencies tabs of objects in the model may not be complete.

For more information on the extraction of dependencies, see the "Impact Analysis" section in the Managing Repository Documents chapter .
Lock before extract Locks the selected version of the document before extraction in order to prevent other users from modifying it. This option is only available to users with Lock Versions rights.

Extract to file

The Extract to file groupbox contains the following parameters:

Parameter Description
Extract to file Specifies that the document will be extracted to a file on your local machine. This option can only be deselected for PowerDesigner models, which can be loaded in memory and added to your workspace without creating a file.
Path Specifies the path of the file to which the document will be extracted. Click the Select File tool to the right of this field to browse to a location.
Merge document [PowerDesigner models only] Opens the Extract Model window (see Using the Extract Model window) before extraction, to allow you to compare the local and repository versions of a model document, and to review and approve or reject differences for extraction.

This option is only available if you have specified a path to an existing file on your machine.
Read-only Sets the read-only flag on the file after extraction.
Open document Opens the document after extraction, either in the current PowerDesigner workspace or in an external application.
Add to workspace Adds the extracted document to the current workspace.
