Chapter 3 Basic Repository Tasks

Extracting Documents from the Repository

To extract a document from the repository, you must have read, write or full permission on the document or (for a PowerDesigner model), one of its packages. Documents with a List permission or no permission at all cannot be extracted.

You will want to extract a document from the repository either to add it to your local workspace, or to update your local version with changes made by other users.

Steps To extract a document not present in your local workspace:

  1. Select the Repository Browser tab to view the contents of the repository.
  2. Right-click a PowerDesigner model or other document, and select Extract from the contextual menu to open the Extract Document window.
  3. Select the appropriate options (see Using the Extract Document window) and then click OK to extract the document. If you have selected the Open document option, the document will be added to your workspace and opened.

Steps To update a document present in your local workspace:

  1. On the Local Browser tab, right click the file that you want to update and select Update from Repository from the contextual menu to open the Extract Document window.
  2. Select the appropriate options (see Using the Extract Document window) and then click OK to extract the document.

If you have selected the Merge document option, the Extract Model window will open to allow you to review all the differences between the local and repository versions and to apply or reject them as appropriate.

Note   Extracting multiple files
You can select multiple files to extract in either the Local Browser or Repository Browser, in which case, the Extract Multiple Documents window will open. For more information, see Using the Extract Multiple Documents window.
