Creating a Sybase ASE staging database

After defining the replication for Sybase IQ and the staging database options, you should run the Check Model feature to verify the ILM.

You can then create a staging database using Sybase ASE.

To create a Sybase ASE staging database:

1. Select Tools→Generate Information Liquidity Model.
2. In the Detail tab, click the Enable transformations button.
3. In the Extended Model Definitions tab, select Sybase IQ Staging and click OK.
   
   A new ILM for Sybase IQ staging is created using transformations.

The original ILM is preserved, if you need to modify the RepServer definition or recreate the staging database, you can use the original model to create another ILM. If you do not want to keep the original Information Liquidity Model, you can transform it to add a staging database. To do so you have to:

• Right click the Sybase IQ database symbol and select Create an ASE Staging Database for IQ command in the contextual menu.
  

The RepServer definition is modified, it is no longer directly connected to Sybase IQ but to the Sybase ASE staging database, and some function strings to replicate data into the Sybase ASE staging database have been added.

A Sybase ASE staging PDM is created that includes:

• Insert staging tables.
• Update staging tables if the "Support update in Sybase IQ" option is selected.
• Delete staging tables.
• Stored procedures for RepServer function strings.
• Sybase IQ_CLEAN_STAGING stored procedure to clean the transferred data.

In the Sybase IQ database PDM, the following new objects are created:

• Insert staging tables if the "Use insert table in Sybase IQ" option is selected.
• Update staging tables if the "Support update in Sybase IQ" option is selected.
• Delete staging tables.
• IQ_LOAD_STAGING stored procedure to transfer data from the staging database into Sybase IQ.
• A staging diagram that displays the staging tables and stored procedures.

The Staging transformation process shows that there is a data transfer between the Sybase ASE staging database and Sybase IQ.
