Chapter 9 Managing Document Versions in the Repository
Documents are stored as versions in the repository. You do not create versions in the repository, you consolidate documents and the result of consolidation can generate the creation of a version in the repository.
When you consolidate a document for the first time, the first version of the document is created in the repository. This version is updatable. The next time you consolidate the same document, you usually update the existing version. You do not create a new version each time you consolidate a document unless you freeze the existing version in the repository. Consolidation creates a new version when the previous version of the document is frozen.
This new version, the last version of the current branch, is updatable.
For more information on version branches, see section Managing repository branches.
You can freeze a version with the following methods:
For more information on the Freeze After Consolidation general option, see section Defining Repository General Options in the Managing Repository Documents chapter.
