Set up the initial properties of new fields you add to a message definition. Numeric properties apply to a field only if the field's Data Type property is set to one of the following types:
IBM Packed Decimal
IBM Signed Packed Decimal
IBM Signed Zoned Decimal
IBM Zoned Decimal
You can set default numeric properties for a single message definition in the New Message Definition wizard when you create a new message definition or globally for your entire workspace by setting message defaults preferences.
At design-time, when you create a message definition, the field inherits the default properties you selected.
