What Planning Should I Do

Before you use Sybase WorkSpace determine the resources you will need and how these resources will be used. Have a thorough understanding of your current business processes and future needs. You must determine how your system will interact with the resources, including databases, services, and business processes, to meet your business requirements. You should also consider how you can re-use resources were created for other projects or exposed as Web services. It is helpful to prepare a system configuration diagram that shows the resource types and names of the various services. In most cases, this first step will be done outside of Sybase WorkSpace.

Planning includes the following work:

  1. Understanding your business objectives

  2. Defining the business problem that needs a solution and the requirements for success

  3. Knowing which resources, such as transports and databases, are available

  4. Defining new resources, such as databases, procedural objects, Java and Web components, services, and information bound to those services

  5. Understanding all services, application semantics, information sources, and processes in your domain

  6. Defining new processes

  7. Selecting your technology set

Before you start working with Sybase WorkSpace, verify that your preferences are set to meet at least the minimum system requirements as documented in the Installation Requirements section of the Sybase® WorkSpace Installation Guide.
