Creating Mobile Agents

Use the Mobile Automation tool in the Enterprise Explorer to automate a mobile agent. When you create an agent, you create a schedule, create rules, and specify actions and error management.

The following workflow guides you through this process.

To automate a mobile agent

  1. Start Unwired Accelerator.

  2. Connect to Unwired Accelerator.

    If the connection is successful, your connection profile expands under Mobile Servers in the Enterprise Explorer and displays the Mobile Automation category.

  3. Connect to Mobile Automation. Right-click Mobile Automation in the Enterprise Explorer and select Connect.

    If the connection is successful, the Mobile Automation category expands in the Enterprise Explorer and displays Mobile Adapters, Mobile Agents, and Mobile Agent Servers.

  4. Right-click Mobile Agents and select New|Mobile Agent. The New Mobile Agent Wizard displays.

  5. In the New Mobile Agent Wizard, in Name, enter a name for the mobile agent, then select the type of mobile agent from the drop-down list:

    • Normal – select this type for a normal mobile agent.

    • Local – this is the type of mobile agent push-sync functionality uses for the mobile application. If you select Local, you must create a schedule for the mobile agent. The only recurrence option allowed is Seconds or Minutes.

    Note

    After you create the mobile agent, you cannot change the agent'sType.

    Click Next.

  6. In the Schedule dialog, automate the mobile agent's recurring execution based on intervals that you specify. Select Trigger Mobile Agent Based on a Schedule to activate the options that are described in the following table.

    TimeSelect the time of day (AM or PM) you want the agent to run.
    Recurrence

    Select the frequency at which you want the agent to run, entered in minutes, hours, days, weeks, or months.

    Note

    If this is a Local type mobile agent, Seconds or Minutes are the only options available.

    Range

    Select the date you want the agent to begin and end running, in month/day/year format. Click Select Date to display a calendar to the right of the Start Date and End By Date to select the date.

    Click Next.

  7. In the Rules page, click Add to add a rule to the mobile agent. See Setting Up Agent Rules.

  8. When you are finished adding rules for the mobile agent, click Next.

  9. In the Action page, click Add to add actions for the mobile agent. See Creating Agent Actions.

  10. When you are finished creating agent actions, click Next.

  11. In the Error Management page, set up the way in which to handle errors for the mobile agent. See Setting Up Error Management for Agents. Click Next.

  12. In the Properties page, set the propeties for the mobile agent. See Defining Properties for Mobile Agents. Click Finish.

  13. The new mobile agent displays under Mobile Agents.
