Required software for PowerBuilder features

Table 1-3 lists the software required for some PowerBuilder Enterprise features. Much of this software is installed automatically when the feature is installed as part of a Compact or Typical install, or when the feature is selected from the Custom/Full install.

Read this table carefully to determine whether you need to install any software before you run the common setup program, and whether you need to select any other products available in the common setup program when you select PowerBuilder or InfoMaker.

Table 1-3: Required software for PowerBuilder features

Feature

Required software

Notes

EAServer component and Web DataWindow development and deployment

EAServer 5.3 or later

If you install EAServer on a different computer, or if you install it on the same computer as PowerBuilder after you install PowerBuilder, run the setup program in the PBVM directory on the PowerBuilder Enterprise CD (Disk 1) to install PowerBuilder runtime files and the Web DataWindow server component in EAServer.

EJB client development

EAServer 5.3 or another J2EE-compliant application server such as WebLogic 8.1, Oracle 9i AS, Oracle Application Server 10g, and WebSphere 5.0

Sun JDK 1.3 or IBM JDK 1.3 or later

Sun JDK 1.4 is installed in the Sybase\Shared\PowerBuilder\jdk14 directory when you install PowerBuilder.

Sun JDK 1.3 or later

EBF 13293 for EAServer 5.3 is required for JSP Web services and byte datatype support.

Apache Tomcat can be downloaded from the Apache Tomcat Web site. No Tomcat files are required on the development computer.

There are special setup requirements for using JSP targets with Tomcat. See “Configuring Tomcat for use with JSP targets”.

Sun JDK 1.4 is installed in the Sybase\Shared\PowerBuilder\jdk14 directory when you install PowerBuilder.

Adaptive Server Anywhere (ASA) 9.0.2 or later

NoteThis product must be installed on your computer before you install PowerBuilder.

ASA 9.0.2 is included in the common setup and is installed before PowerBuilder (or InfoMaker) if you select both products.

If the setup program cannot detect ASA 9.0.2 or later on your computer and you have not selected ASA in the common setup, you receive a warning if you select PowerBuilder and/or InfoMaker.

If you choose to continue, the setup program does not install the tutorials or create registry entries for the demo databases. If you want to use these features later, you must reinstall PowerBuilder and/or InfoMaker.

Web and JSP target development

Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 6 or later

NoteThis software must be installed on your computer before you install PowerBuilder.

You can download Microsoft Internet Explorer from the Microsoft Downloads page.

If the setup program cannot detect Internet Explorer 6 or later on your system, you will receive a warning. If you choose to continue, the setup program disables Web targets functionality. If you want to use Web targets at a later date, you must reinstall PowerBuilder 10.5.

You do not need to install the Microsoft VM. Web targets in PowerBuilder 10.5 use the Sun Java VM.
