Setting up a non-Sybase data server with RSM

The RSM creates a “pseudo server” on the Sybase Central desktop to represent a non-Sybase data server. RSM does not communicate directly with non-Sybase data servers, but it collects metadata about the database through either the Sybase Replication Agent or a DirectConnect gateway server. This interface server is identified in the Add Server wizard.

StepsTo set up a non-Sybase data server

  1. Add the non-Sybase data server to the RSM.

Select the RSM icon from the Sybase Central desktop, and double-click on the Add Server icon.

    The Add Server wizard starts.

  2. Select the interface server name from the drop-down list.

If the server is not in the list, cancel the wizard and add the server to the RSM Server interfaces file.

Different connection configurations use different interface servers:

  3. When adding a non-Sybase server for bidirectional replication, select the Replication Agent from the drop-down list.

    Choose Next to continue.

  4. Select the non-Sybase server type from the drop-down list box.

    Choose Next to continue.

  5. Identify the interface server type: Replication Agent or DirectConnect.

If the server is for a DB2 for OS/390 or replicate-only configuration, check the DirectConnect box. If the server is for a primary-only configuration, check the Replication Agent box. If the server is for a bidirectional configuration, check both boxes.

    Choose Next to continue.

  6. Depending on the selection from the previous dialog box, the Add Server wizard prompts you for a database name.

For primary replication configurations, this name must match the database name used in the Replication Agent rs_source_db configuration parameter.

    Choose Next to continue.

  7. If you select a DirectConnect server as the interface server type, the Add Server wizard prompts you for a user ID and password.

This information is used by RSM to monitor the data server. Login information for the Replication Agent is collected when the Replication Agent is added to the RSM environment.

    Choose Next to continue.

  8. If you are adding a primary-only DB2 for OS/390 data server, select the Suspend DSI check box.

This switch tells RSM not to report the status of the DSI thread. Primary-only configurations using Sybase Replication Agent automatically set this switch.

  9. Open the server Properties dialog box.

  10. Select the non-Sybase server icon on the Sybase Central desktop, right-click and select Properties from the context menu.

  11. Open the Communication tab.

  12. Select the Suspend DSI check box, and choose OK.

NoteYou must install the Informix schema tables when setting up an Informix replicate data server. For more information, see the Informix Guide to SQL.
