Setting up a Replication Agent

This section describes how to set up a Replication Agent within an RSM environment. The Replication Agent server must be added before the non-Sybase data server.

NoteRSM does not manage the Replication Agent for DB2 UDB for OS/390.

StepsTo set up a Replication Agent

  1. Identify the data server and database name that will be used by the Replication Agent when sending data to the Replication Server. This name must match the Replication Agent rs_source_ds and rs_source_db configuration parameters and the data server and database name specified in the Replication Server database connection.

For replicate-only and bidirectional configurations, the data server name should match the DirectConnect server entry in the Sybase interfaces file.

The database name should match the database name in DB2 Universal Database, Informix, or Microsoft SQL Server. For Oracle servers, the database name does not need to match any particular name.

  2. Add the Replication Agent server to RSM.

Select the RSM icon from the Sybase Central desktop, and double-click on the Add Server icon.

    The Add Server wizard starts.

  3. Select the Replication Agent server name from the drop-down list.

If the Replication Agent is not in the list, cancel the wizard and add the server to the RSM server interfaces file.

    Choose Next to continue.

  4. Select the Replication Agent type from the drop-down list box.

    Choose Next to continue.

  5. Enter the user ID and password for the Replication Agent System Administrator.

This information is used by RSM to configure and monitor the Replication Agent.

    Choose Next to continue.

  6. Enter the data server name and database name you identified in step 1.

    Choose Next to continue.

  7. Select how the Replication Agent log file will be monitored.

    Choose Next to continue.

You can now use RSM to configure the Replication Agent.

  8. Set the Replication Agent configuration parameters rs_source_ds and rs_source_db that identify the data server and database name used by the Replication Server.

These names were identified in step 1.
