Chapter 12 Working with Replication Server
A Replication server is a server engine that makes a copy of data incoming from a given database into one or several databases or replication processes.
The Sybase server program maintains replicated data, typically on a LAN, and manages data transactions received from other replication servers on the same LAN or on a WAN.
You design a Replication server the following way:
| Replication Server concept | PowerDesigner concept |
|---|---|
| Replication server | Replication process with appropriate Replication Server XEM attached |
A replication process can have the following types that influence the type of the child publications together with the generated code:
| Replication process type | PowerDesigner Publication type | Replication Server object mapping |
|---|---|---|
| Undefined | No type | — |
| Replication Server | Undefined
Publication |
Each publication becomes a publication Each article becomes an article A replication definition is created for each article The validation of the publication is also generated |
| Replication Definitions | A replication definition is created for each article | |
| Database | A database replication is created, but limited to the tables listed in articles |
For more information about the PowerDesigner publication types, see section Understanding the publication type.
The following extended attributes are available:
| Name | Internal code | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Password | Password | Password of the administration user |
| User name | UserName | Name of administration user |
