Chapter 12 Working with Replication Server

Creating a warm standby database

A warm standby application is a pair of Adaptive Server or SQL Server databases, one of which is a backup copy of the other. Client applications update the active database; Replication Server maintains the standby database as a copy of the active database.

You create a warm standby database in PowerDesigner using the Create Standby Database command from the contextual menu of the database. It allows you to automatically create a standby database with the same attached physical data model. When you generate scripts for the process server, the standby database is automatically taken into account.

PowerDesigner allows you to create a logical connection using a connection group that links together the data connection of the primary database and the data connection of its warm standby database. The default connection of the logical group indicates which one is the primary database.
