Data property sheet Definition property

You can link a data to an object in another model according to the type you selected in the Type list.

The Definition box is filled when you select an object to link to the data in the Select an Object dialog box.

Depending on the selected type of data in the Type box, and on the models open in the workspace, the Select Definition Object tool located beside the Definition box allows you to open a selection window and select either a:

If there is no adequate CDM, OOM or PDM objects available in the workspace, the Select Object Definition button is unavailable:

Data type Object to select
Undefined CDM entity, CDM data item, OOM class, and PDM table
Elementary CDM data item
Structured CDM entity, and OOM class, and PDM table

The <Undefined> type automatically changes in the Type box according to the object you define in the Definition box. However, if you explicitly define a type before you select an object, you can only access objects related to the selected type. In addition, if you change the type of the data so that it is no longer coherent with the object defined in the Definition box, a message box asks you to confirm the change, and the link between the data and the object is removed.

After you have selected an object to be linked to the data, the text (Shortcut) is displayed after its name in the Definition box. When you click the Properties button beside the Definition box, you can open the target object property sheet.

For more information about how to link a data to an object, see section Linking a data to an object.
