Chapter 6 Process Languages Reference Guide

Introduction to Process Language Resource Files

Process language (.xpl) resource files extend the PowerDesigner metamodel to model the specific features of a particular process language. A separate .xpl file is supplied for each language supported by the BPM.

The resource file defines the syntax and guidelines for generating objects and implementing stereotypes, data types, scripts and constants for the process language. You select the relevant resource file automatically when you create a new BPM.

Steps To open a .xpl file in the Resource Editor:

  1. From a BPM, select Language→Edit Current Process Language.

    or

Select Tools→Resources→Process Languages to display the List of Process Languages and double-click an entry in the list.

Note   Caution
You should not modify the original .xpl files shipped with PowerDesigner. To create a copy of an .xpl file, select Tools→Resources→Process Languages, click the New tool, enter a name, select the .xpl to copy from the list, and click OK and then Save.

For general information about editing resource files, see the "Resource Files and the Public Metamodel" chapter.
