Chapter 2 Introduction to the Repository
You need a database server and a database running on the server. The database does not need to be specifically designed to store the repository tables, however repository performance is improved when the database only hosts repository tables. The proxy can also be installed on the database server. The DB Administrator is responsible for setting up the database server and the repository proxy.
On each client workstation you must:
However, if you use the repository proxy, you only have to Install PowerDesigner on each client workstation, the ODBC drivers and the data source are installed on the repository proxy.
On the repository proxy you must:
The first time you connect to the server, the repository tables must be created in the database, in this book we call this step repository database creation, see "Creating the repository database" in the "Connecting to the repository" chapter.
When the repository database is created, the clients can connect to the server and use the repository.
Caution
You cannot create a repository using a proxy connection, you have to connect to the repository using a direct connection and execute the repository installation before using the repository proxy. For more information about proxy and direct connection, see the Connecting to the Repository chapter.
