Chapter 6 Extracting documents

Updating a document from the repository

The Update From Repository feature lets you update a local document with a repository document.

You can use this feature in the following situation: you have extracted a document from the repository and kept it for a long time on your local machine. Meanwhile, other users work on the same document and consolidate changes in the repository. You can use the Update From Repository feature if you do not want to consolidate your document but only extract the document and update it with the changes performed by other users.

If you are working on a PowerDesigner model, the Merge dialog box appears after extraction to show you the differences between models. The local model is the model to be merged in the right pane, and the repository model is the model in the left pane.

If you are working on other types of documents, the repository document replaces the local document.

Steps To update a local document from the repository:

  1. Select a document node in the local browser.
  2. Right-click the mouse button and select Update From Repository.

The Extract Document dialog box appears.
  3. Select a name and/or the version of the corresponding document in the repository.
  4. Click OK.

The Merge dialog box appears when you are working on PowerDesigner models. It shows you the differences between models and lets you select merge actions.
  5. (PowerDesigner models only) Define merge actions and click OK.
