Sybase WorkSpace includes interactive tutorials that show you how to use Sybase WorkSpace tools to create basic parts of a service-oriented application. Two types of tutorials are delivered for Sybase WorkSpace:
End-to-End Tutorials: The SybStore tutorial provides end-to-end development of an application for a sales and inventory system that automates a retail business process.
Each SybStore interactive tutorial guides you through the process of building a small component of the application. These tutorials are generally independent of each other. With some constraints, you can choose which tutorials to do, and the order in which to do them.
Component-based Tutorials: Web Application Development and Database Development tutorials each focus on the use of key features within Sybase WorkSpace. These tutorials are completely independent of each other.
Each part contains one or more tutorials, and each tutorial is divided into one or more lessons. This organization allows you to work through the tutorials in small, manageable pieces, while introducing a broad array of WorkSpace tools and features.
Sybase WorkSpace also provides the end-to-end SybStore and component-based samples, as complete working applications or components. You can refer to the samples as you work through the tutorials to compare the tutorials results to the samples results. See Samples.
The SybStore end-to-end tutorials are divided into these parts:
Enterprise Modeling – these tutorials demonstrate how to use WorkSpace tools to model an application as a database model, a Business Process Model or an XML model.
Database Development– these tutorials explain how to execute and test the database scripts and stored procedures generated in the Enterprise Modeling tutorials. These tutorials also show you how to view and manage SQL script query execution plans that allow developers to optimize and fine tune SQL statement queries.
Service Development and Process Orchestration – these tutorials illustrate how to create database services, a message service, a transformation service, and Java services, and how to use them in a Business Process (orchestration) service. The services comprise the sample application’s sales and inventory processing.
Mobile Development – these tutorials show how to create mobile applications that run on a personal digital assistant (PDA), that interact with databases and Web services, and that can be deployed to a portal page.
Web Application Development – these tutorials explain how to use WorkSpace tools to develop a simple Java Server Faces (JSF) - based purchase order Web application that contains a welcome page, an inventory page, a restock request page, and an outstanding order page.
Component tutorials are provided for the following:
Web Application Development – this tutorial helps you to develop and deploy a stand-alone Web application.
Database Development – these tutorials help you to develop and debug stored procedures and triggers for Adaptive Server Enterprise using the SQL Debugger. You also learn how to use temporary tables and deleted tables.
