Help

Familiarize yourself with the following online help features. They will help you to better utilize the help system.

Preferences

Using the Preferences dialog box, specify how you want help to display:

  • Using an external browser.

  • Displaying context-sensitive topic selections in a Help view or through a pop-up window.

  • Opening context-sensitive topics in the Help view or in the editor.

Opening the Sybase WorkSpace bookshelf

You can open the online help in an embedded Web browser from a variety of locations. You can also use an external Web browser.

Opening the Help view

A dynamic Help view provides context-sensitive help for the current task. In wizards, preference windows, launch configurations, searches and other multi-page dialog boxes, you can press F1 again to update the Help view contents as you progress from page to page.

Printing a help topic

Print selected topics by clicking the Print Page icon in the toolbar.

Searching for a topic

Use the Search feature to locate topics based on key words. You can perform a help search directly from the bookshelf or using the dynamic Help view.

Collections

The online help is organized into collections of topics in the online bookshelf. To identify a topic, view the topic title bar.

Glossaries

Each collection has its own glossary. To access a glossary, expand the collection category.

Breadcrumbs

A hierarchy displays at the top of each topic. You can review the hierarchical sequence of the topic you are viewing in the collection, and you can also select a category and move up the hierarchy.

To return to your original topic, click the Back arrow in the tool bar.

Tutorials

  • Go to the Sybase WorkSpace Welcome page, click Tutorial.

  • Select Help | Tutorials from the menu bar.

  • See Tutorials.

Perspectives

Choose from the following:

  • Select Help | Help Contents from the main menu bar.

    This opens the online help bookshelf. From the bookshelf, you can browse through the contents pane or use the search capability to locate the help topic you need.

  • Select Help | Cheat Sheets from the main menu bar.

    A list of cheat sheets displays. Select a cheat sheet (development workflow) for the task that you want to complete.

Editors

Click question mark icon for more information about the editor page.

Cheat sheets

Click question mark icon to provide additional information for that step in the workflow.

Pressing F1 (Windows)

Pressing Shift +F1 (Linux)

When you press F1 in an editor or a view, a dynamic Help view opens displaying context-sensitive help. It displays a list of links to topics that are relevant to the editor or view.

Note

To locate the topic in the collection, click Show in Table of Contents Show in Table of Contents icon to synchronize the navigator with the current topic.
