Managing Adaptive Server Anywhere Using a Windows Service

Unwired Orchestrator installs a Windows service [Adaptive Server Anywhere - UO51Runtime] for the ASA runtime database. To facilitate the process of managing the database on a Windows platform, Sybase recommends that you use the following service. However, you have the option of removing the service and managing the default ASA database using scripts.

Removing a Windows Service

Do the following to remove a Windows service.

  1. Stop the Windows database service. Select Settings | Control Panel from the Start menu. Then select Administrative Tools and Services .

  2. Right-click Adaptive Server Anywhere - UO51Runtime and select Stop.

  3. Locate the following removal script:

    <installation directory>\Orch-5_1\asa\removeUO51Runtime_service.bat

  4. Use a command utility to run the script.

    A message appears when the service is successfully deleted.

Installing a Windows Service

You can reinstall a Windows service that has been removed.

  1. Locate the following install script:

    <installation directory>\Orch-5_1\asa\installUO51Runtime_service.bat

  2. Use a command utility to run the script.

    A message appears when the service is successfully added.

  3. Start the Windows database service. Select Settings | Control Panel from the Start menu. Then select Administrative Tools and Services.

  4. Right-click Adaptive Server Anywhere - UO51Runtime and select Start.
