Database Explorer Perspective

The Database Explorer perspective can be accessed from Database Development or Service Development tooling. For use in Database Development, please see Database Development Perspective. The perspective provides extended functionality to directly modify data in database tables directly or data returned by stored procedures or SQL statements.

Sybase WorkSpace service development tooling integrates with the Database Explorer perspective at the stored procedure level. You can use the perspective to create a new database service, as described in Creating a Database Service from a Stored Procedure.

To open the Database Explorer perspective:

  1. Select Window|Open Perspective|Other.

    The Select Perspective dialog appears.

  2. Select Database Explorer and click OK.

The Database Explorer perspective appears. The left pane contains the Database Explorer view. The right pane contains three panels: Object Layout, Object Details, and Results.

    Note

If focus is on the WorkSpace Navigator when you change to the Database Explorer perspective, the WorkSpace Navigator is displayed over the left pane view. To remove, click the Fast View shortcut bar.

  3. To connect to a database, expand a selected database to view available connection profiles.

    Note

If you have no connection profiles, right-click an installed database interface and select New Connection Profile. For more information about creating connection profiles, see Connection Profiles

  4. Right-click a connection profile and select Connect.

The tree now displays database information.

For more detailed information about the Database Explorer Perspective, see Managing a Database.
