Defining a subscription adds the subscription to the Replication Server system tables but does not materialize or activate the subscription. Use the Define Subscription wizard to create a subscription with bulk materialization. For more information on defining subscriptions, see the Replication Server Reference Manual and the Replication Server Administration Guide.
Open Enterprise Explorer, and connect to your replicate Replication Server.
Expand the view for your Replication Server connection profile, and expand a database for which to define the subscription.
Right-click the Subscriptions folder, and choose Define Subscription from the context menu to start the wizard.
Modify the following fields as necessary.
Subscription settings
Field | Example |

Subscription name | Enter a subscription name in the text field. |
Replicate data location | These fields indicate the location of your replicate Replication Server and replicate database. |
Artifact settings | Select one of the following artifact types and an artifact from the corresponding menu drop-down:

Changes made in this wizard page appear in the Preview field. Click Next to continue.
Modify the following fields as necessary.
Materialization, truncate table, and new articles
Field | Example |
---|---|
Subscribe to truncate table | Specify whether or not to enable replication of the truncate table command to the subscribing replicate database. |
For new articles | Specify whether or not Replication Server should check the subscription against its corresponding publication and create subscriptions against unused articles. This option can only be specified if you selected a publication artifact in the previous screen. |
Click Finish to close the wizard.
