Creating Replication Server Subscriptions

A Replication Server subscription is a request for Replication Server to maintain a replicated copy of an object in a replicate database at a specified location. To create Replication Server subscriptions from Workspace, use the following procedure.

  1. Open Enterprise Explorer, and connect to your replicate Replication Server.

  2. Expand the view for your Replication Server connection profile, right-click a primary database for which to create the subscription, and choose New Artifact from the context menu.

  3. From the wizard selection screen, select Subscription, and click Next to start the wizard. You can also start this wizard by right-clicking a Subscriptions folder and choosing New Subscription from the context menu.

  4. Modify the following fields as necessary.

    Default values are provided for the following fields:

    • Replicate data server

    • Replicate data database

    Subscription Type

    Select one of the following:

    • Table RepDef

    • Function RepDef

    • Database RepDef

    • Publication

    Click Next to continue.

  5. Modify the following fields.

    Name Prefix and Suffix

    Specify a prefix or suffix for the subscription or subscriptions you are creating. These are optional.

    • Prefix for subscription name – the prefix for the subscription.

    • Suffix for subscription name – the suffix for the subscription. The default suffix is "_sub".

    Replicate Definition

    • Specify replication definitions using Select All and Deselect All to select or deselect all replication definitions in the grid. Use Revert Selection to undo a selection.

    • Specify the name by which you want subscriptions to be known. To modify a value, click in the field, and type the desired subscription name.

    • Specify materialization preferences for replicate tables. As a default, this field specifies "Without materialization." To modify this value, click in the field, and select another option from the menu drop-down. Alternate options are "Without holdlock," "Incrementally," and "Atomic materialization."

    • Specify whether or not the truncate table command should be enabled for this subscription. For more information on this command, see the Replication Server Administration Guide.

    Subscription Criteria

    To set criteria for column or parameter values to be replicated, highlight a replication definition in the Replicate definition grid, then specify the following values in the Criteria grid.

    • Name – Specify the name of the column or parameter value to be replicated. Double-click in this field, and select an item from the menu drop-down.

    • Operator – Specify an operator for this criterion. Click in this field, and select an operator from the menu drop-down.

    • Value – Specify a value for this criterion. Double-click in this field, and type the desired value.

  6. Specify how to handle the commands for creating a database replication definition.

    • Click Generate script to have the creation script displayed in the RepServer Scrapbook when you are finished with the wizard. This option is selected by default.

    • Click Execute immediately to have the script execute once you are finished with the wizard.
