Transferring Messages

During this phase, messages are transfered from a Publisher to a Subscriber. This is the second data processing stage.

Minimizing or eliminating packet re-transmission due to dropped packets is the single most important factor in maximizing RAP performance.

Latency; that is, the elasped time that messages take to travel across the network from publisher to subscriber, can also affect RAP and message processing performance.

• Eliminating or Reducing Dropped Packets
  The system drops UDP packets if the Publisher sends packets too fast or if the Subscriber does not load data quickly enough.
• Setting Parameters That Affect Latency
  Latency is directly affected by configurable network communication parameters in RAP, Sybase IQ, and Adaptive Server Enterprise.
• Increasing Publisher Performance
  Use the Publisher performance settings table to set the publisher performance parameters and increase publisher performance.
• Increasing Subscriber Performance
  Use the Subscriber performance settings table to set the performance parameters and increase subscriber performance.
