Installing with the RAP Installer

Install RAP from the RAP product DVD or download using the graphical interface.

1. If you are installing in GUI mode on a UNIX operating system, make sure the $DISPLAY environment variable is set to the machine where you want to view the installer.
2. Insert the RAP product DVD into the drive.

   If RAP setup does not start automatically, mount the drive, then enter the install command for your platform:

   Platform	Command
   Solaris, Linux	<CD_mount_directory>/rap_cd1/setup<platform>.bin where <platform> is the name of your operating system. For example, on Sun Solaris, use:/cdrom/rap_cd1/setupSolaris.bin
   AIX	<CD_mount_directory>/rap_cd1/setupaix For example: /cdrom/rap_cd1/setupaix

   When you run the setup command, your current directory can be any directory that is not on the DVD.

3. On the Welcome screen, choose Next.
4. Choose a location, then read and accept the license agreement. Choose Next.

   If you do not find a license agreement that matches your location, or if the license agreement is unreadable on your system, choose from all available license agreements on the Sybase Web site at http://www.sybase.com/softwarelicenses.

5. Accept the default target directory, /opt/sybase/RAP, or choose another installation directory.
6. Select Enable multibyte character support if you want RAP to support languages that use multibyte characters.
   If you do not select this option, the installation continues with single-byte character support. If you plan on using multibyte characters in the future, you may want to install multibyte character support initially. After installation, users cannot switch between multibyte and single-byte data schemas.

   Note:

   Text that is made up of multibyte characters requires more bytes to store and transmit than text containing only single-byte characters.

7. Choose Next.
8. Choose an installation type:
   • Express install
   • Custom install (default)
9. Choose the components to install.

   Clicking the box next to a component selects or unselects that component.

10. Follow the installer instructions to complete the installation.

    Option	Description
    Custom setup	Allows complete control over system configuration, ports, IP addresses, tuning parameters, and so on. Recommended for most production installations.
    Express setup	For systems where default values for ports and tuning parameters are acceptable. Recommended for development and for some production installations.

11. Review the installation summary, and choose Install when you are satisfied with your selections.

    The installation begins immediately.
