Preinstallation Tasks

This section provides tasks to perform before you install RAP.

• Check for operating system patches.
  Note:

  Do not use a patch that is earlier than the version suggested for your operating system. Use the patch recommended by the operating system vendor.

• Obtain the Local Interface Value.
• Determine the multicast IP address.
• Change the Linux host file mappings.

• Identifying Operating System Patches
  Apply any operating system patches before you install RAP.
• Obtain the Local Interface value
  Every UDP multicast group must be bound to a network IP interface address. The RAP installer refers to this value as the local interface.
• Network Requirements
  Make sure your subnetwork meets all the requirements before you install.
• Determining the Multicast IP Address
  Publishers multicast messages to subscribers from class D IP addresses which must range from 224.0.2.0 through 224.0.255.0. 224.0.2.0 is the default multicast IP address assigned by the installer for all publishers.
• Changing Linux Host File Mappings
  Change the Linux host file mappings to allow the JINI server to locate remote components.
• Configure AIX for Large Files
  For each machine running IBM AIX, configure AIX to allow large file sizes and set the memory requirements to their hard limits.
• Allocating a Shared Memory Segment
  Configure adequate shared-memory resources for the database server in your operating system.
