This section describes the required licensing information that you must know before you install any of the components of Mirror Replication Agent.
When you install Mirror Replication Agent, the SySAM license manager
is automatically installed.
Sybase Software Asset Management 2 (SySAM) is a licensing mechanism that:
Allows System Administrators to monitor their site’s use of Sybase products and optional features
Records the Sybase software being used and licensed
SySAM checks licenses for the following Mirror Activator components:
Mirror Replication Agent
Replication Server, which is described in the Replication Server Installation Guide
For Oracle: Enterprise Connect Data Access (ECDA) Option, which is described in the ECDA installation guides
Before version 12.5, ECDA option for Oracle was sold
as an individual product named “DirectConnect™ for
Oracle.” You will see the name “DirectConnect” still
appears in the software and in documents, including this document.
SySAM-enabled products can obtain licenses using one of two models:
Unserved license model – gets licenses directly from the license file.
Served license model – gets licenses from a license server to distribute to one or more machines.
Each license model requires different SySAM components.
The basic components of SySAM are:
A license file
The SySAM software, which consists of a license manager and management utilities
For SySAM information, refer to the Sybase Software Asset Management 2 Users Guide.
