Runtime Management topics describe the runtime management activities that can be performed. Refer to Runtime Behavior for a better understanding of what actually occurs in the runtime engine.
The Orchestration Administration perspective provides two views to assist with runtime management:
The Server Explorer view provides runtime instance control and runtime instance administration capability.
The Server Instance Management Monitoring view allows you to view business process statistics and remove or recover failed business processes.
Note: Control, Administration, Management Monitoring features can also be used from the command line. See Working with Agent Server Instances from the Command Line.
Using the Control > Start Instance command from the instance shortcut menu in the Server Explorer, the engine initializes the runtime instance. After initialization, additional commands, such as stop, pause, resume, abort, ping, and show instance log, become available to control the started engine instance. If multiple instances are started, each instance is controlled separately.
Using Runtime Instance Control Options
Introducing Updated Business Processes
The shortcut menu for each runtime instance in the Server Explorer contains an Administration option for performing administrative tasks for that instance. Submenu options are available in the Administration menu based on the current status of the runtime instance.
To access the menu, right-click on the runtime instance, click and hold Administration, and select the desired submenu option.
The options include:
Option |
Description |
Reload Runtime Database |
Refreshes the runtime state database. This copies a fresh database file to the runtime instance. If you are reloading the runtime database while recovering a failed business process, you must first perform the Clean Runtime Files option to remove the engine's pid and other runtime files. |
Clean Runtime Files |
Verifies that all of the runtime files
have been removed from the instance. |
The Server Instance Management Monitoring view provides tools to assist managing and monitoring business processes running in persist mode. This view allows you to do the following:
Query a runtime instance to identify active, complete, and failed business processes.
View and filter a list of failed business processes for each runtime instance.
Select specific processes for which details of the error causing the business process failure can be reviewed.
Choose to remove or recover failed business processes.
From the Administration perspective, open the view by selecting Window -> Show View -> Other. Expand the Orchestrator node and select the Server Instance Management Monitoring view.
