Chapter 2 Getting Started with Information Liquidity Modeling
Introducing Information Liquidity Modeling
The movement of data is a central concern for the enterprise. Data movement modeling allows you to model where data originates to where it is loaded, and how it is transformed on the way.
The PowerDesigner Information Liquidity Model (ILM) is a graphical modeling environment focused on data movement, which lets you model:
- Data replication – Data are replicated from source databases to target databases via replication engines, such as Replication Server and MobiLink.
- Data transformation – Data from diverse sources are combined to be extracted, transformed, and loaded to output sources via ETL (Extract Transform and Load) and EII (Enterprise Information Integration).
With this product, you can:
- Build an Information Liquidity Model (ILM) containing Information Liquidity Diagrams, Transformation Control Flow Diagrams, and Data Transformation Diagrams.
- Model ETL and EII data transformations.
- Model data replications for Replication Server and MobiLink.
- Generate and reverse engineer Replication Server files.
- Generate and reverse engineer MobiLink files.
- Represent mappings between different data models.
- Generate automatic PowerDesigner reports to document your model.
