Chapter 10 Working with Replication Server

Replicating data with Replication Server

Steps To replicate data with Replication Server:

  1. Create or open one or more Physical Data Models (PDMs). These PDMs will constitute the source databases of your system in the Information Liquidity Model (ILM). You can also select File→Reverse Engineer→Database to create PDMs.
  2. Select File→New→Information Liquidity Model, click the Extended Model Definitions tab, and select one of the supported Replication Server versions to create an ILM with a Replication Server XEM attached. If you select both versions, the Replication Server XEM with the lowest version number will be attached to your model. You can change the version number from the Type list on the General tab of the Replication server property sheet.
  3. Click the Replication Server tool in the palette to create a Replication server, its type corresponds to the version of the XEM attached to the model. Right-click it the Replication server, and select Replication Wizard. This wizard guides you through the creation of the source database, which targets the Replication server, the specification of the tables to replicate and the creation of the remote database, which is targeted by the Replication server. Both source and remote databases have an associated PDM to specify their structure.

You can also associate PDMs with remote databases without using the wizard, however you should consider the following situations:

  4. Generate scripts for the databases and for the replication process from their respective contextual menu
