Chapter 11 Linking and Synchronizing Models

Linking objects through object mappings

You create mappings when you want to establish a correspondence between objects belonging to heterogeneous models and diagrams. Object mapping creates a structure for data movement and transformation: data comes from a data source and is loaded to another database or model.

The mapping editor helps you easily create mappings between models objects using drag-and-drop. If you drag a source object and drop it on a target model (without defining the target object of the mapping) a shortcut of the source object is automatically created in the target model.

For more information on the mapping editor, see the Creating Mappings chapter.

Mappings are displayed in the Dependencies tab of source objects, and in the Impact Analysis dialog box.
