
Chapter 2 Getting Started with the Repository
Setting up a Repository
Before PowerDesigner users can connect to the repository, it must be set up by an administrator. The repository can be created with the Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere DBMS delivered with PowerDesigner or with one of several other DBMSs. The following components are required:
- Database server – Select a server to host the repository database and create a database on it. The server need not necessarily be reserved exclusively for hosting the repository, but performance will be improved if this is the case. See Setting up the repository server
- Repository proxy – the proxy is an optional program that sits between client machines and the repository database, and can provide considerable performance improvements (particularly over a WAN). See Setting up the repository proxy (optional)
- Client workstations – the setup of client workstations depends on whether the proxy is used. See Setting up a client machine.
