Flat file property sheet General tab

The General tab contains the following properties:

Property Description
Name The name of the item which should be clear and meaningful, and should convey the item's purpose to non-technical users.
Code The technical name of the item used for generating code or scripts, which may be abbreviated, and should not generally include spaces.
Comment Descriptive comment for the flat file.
Stereotype Extends the semantics of an object derived from existing objects but specific to your needs. You can type stereotypes directly in the Stereotype box of the object property sheet or select a value from the list if you have previously defined stereotypes in an embedded or imported extended model definition (.XEM).
Separator Specifies a custom delimiter. Only available when you select the Custom Delimiter option in the Mode box.
Mode You can choose from the following modes:
CSV (Comma Separated Value) — File containing tabular data, using a comma to separate values. When you select this option, the Separator box and the Fixed Length box are grayed.
Custom Delimiter — Specify a custom delimiter in the Separator box. When you select this option, the Fixed Length box is grayed
Fixed Length — Specify a numeric value. When you select this option, the Custom Delimiter box is grayed.
Fixed length Specifies a numeric value. Only available when you select the Fixed Length option in the Mode box.
Path Path to the file containing data. You can click the Select File tool to the right of the box to browse for a file. You can also press the ctrl key and double-click a flat file symbol to open the application associated with the file you have selected. If the flat file has no associated application, a standard Open With dialog box opens that lets you select an application.
