Chapter 2 Information Liquidity Model Basics

Functional overview

A PowerDesigner Information Liquidity Model (ILM) is a powerful design tool to:

Simplify replication engine design and configuration
Design and document ETL and EII data transformations

Replications

Tightly linked to a PowerDesigner Physical Data Model (PDM), the ILM allows you to model the replication of objects from a source database to one or several replication engines or databases in order to give a global representation of the whole set of replications.

Data transformations

The Information Liquidity Model lets you combine data from different sources, transform it and load it to a target data store like ETL (Extract Transform and Load) and EII (Enterprise Information Integration) tools do. The ILM lets you represent data transformation tasks and their workflow in detailed views from the transformation process as follows:

Build an Information Liquidity Model (ILM) using the Information Liquidity Diagram, the Transformation Control Flow Diagram and the Data Transformation Diagram
Design data transformations
Represent mappings between different models in the same diagram
Configure parameters to database connection
Generate Replication Server .SQL files and reverse engineering Replication Server objects
Generate MobiLink .SQL files and reverse engineering MobiLink objects
Generate an Information Liquidity Model from the ILM to create different levels of implementation of your model
