Chapter 12 Working with Replication Server
Replicating data with Replication Server
Here is the proper sequence to follow in order to replicate data with Replication Server:
- Prepare one or several Physical Data Models (PDMs) corresponding to the source databases of your system. You can also create PDMs (if you do not have any) using the database reverse engineering feature through the File→Reverse Engineer→Database command from the menu bar
- Create an Information Liquidity Model (ILM) using the appropriate Replication Server extended model definition (XEM), according to your needs
- Create a replication process in the diagram using the Replication Server tool in the palette. The replication process type must be consistent with the version of Replication Server you are using
- Define the source database, the replication information necessary for the tables you want to replicate and the remote database using the Replication Wizard from the replication process contextual menu
- In order to associate the corresponding PDM with the remote database, you have several options:
The remote database already exists: Use the Reverse Engineer Database command from the remote database contextual menu and attach the created PDM to the remote database
The remote database structure does not exist and must be deduced from the replication definition: Use the Update Remote Database command from the remote database contextual menu
The remote database is exactly the same as the source database: Attach to the remote database the same PDM as the one attached to the source database
- Generate scripts for the databases and for the replication process from their respective contextual menu
