Chapter 3 Building Information Liquidity Diagrams
A database represents a data store. It is based on a relational model and stored in one or several Physical Data Models. Data connection links indicate how to move the data it contains using replication processes.
A database belongs to a package and can be associated with one or more Physical Data Models (PDM) to describe it contents.
A database has the following symbol in the diagram:
Some commands in the contextual menu of the database can help you build a PDM, if you do not already have one:
You can link a database to a transformation process using a data connection. The database becomes a data input or output in the design of data transformations.
For more information about data transformations, see the "Building Data Transformation Diagrams" chapter.
Opening the associated Physical Data Model
You can also open the Physical Data Model associated with the database by right-clicking the database symbol in the diagram, and selecting Open Model. If several PDMs are associated, a Model Selection dialog box is displayed to let you select the model to open.
