Chapter 10 Building Data Transformation Diagrams
A data output defines a target destination for data. It specifies where the data is loaded and the type of the loaded data using data structure columns.
A data output is linked to a target data store (database, XML document, and flat file) using a data connection incoming from its parent transformation process. Target data stores are linked to the transformation process in the information liquidity diagram using data connections. The link to the target data store is displayed in the Target Object list on the General tab of the data output property sheet and in the Data Structure Mapping Editor open from a target output.
When a data output has more than two incoming flows, you can right-click the data output and select Insert Merge. It automatically creates a data merge before the data output. Conversely, you can select Remove Merge to display the data flows instead of the data merge.
You can create the following data outputs in a data transformation diagram:
Object | Tool | Symbol | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Database output | Database to where data is loaded. | ||
XML output | XML document to where data is loaded. | ||
Flat file output | Flat file to where data is loaded. |
By default, a data output displays in the Bitmap View mode. You can right-click the symbol and deselect this mode to display the object data structure columns.
Dragging and dropping data stores
You can drag a target data store from the browser and drop it onto the data transformation diagram in order to automatically create the corresponding data output.
