Chapter 10 Building Data Transformation Diagrams
Inserting a data sort
A data sort sorts the rows from an incoming flow by one or more data structure columns.
You define a list of sort columns in the Sort Columns tab to specify which columns are used to sort data.
You cannot modify the data structure columns of a data sort.
To insert a data sort:
- Select the Data Sort tool in the palette, and create the corresponding object in the diagram.
- Select the Data Flow tool, and draw a flow from the preceding step (a data input or action) to the data sort to initialize it with the appropriate columns.
- Double-click the data sort symbol to open its property sheet. The Data Structure Columns tab is automatically completed with the values from the incoming flow.
- Click the Sort Columns tab and click the Select Sort Columns tool to open a selection dialog box, which allows you to select one or more columns to sort by. Make your selection and click OK to add the columns and return to the tab, and click OK to save your changes and return to the tab.
- For each one of the columns, click in the Order column to specify whether it should be sorted in ascending or descending order. By default, all columns are sorted in ascending order.
- Click OK to save your changes and return to the diagram.
