Data connection properties

You can modify an object's properties from its property sheet. To open a data connection property sheet, double-click its diagram symbol or its Browser entry in the Data Connections folder. The following table details the General tab that contains the properties most commonly entered for data connections:

Property Description
Name The name of the item which should be clear and meaningful, and should convey the item's purpose to non-technical users.
Code The technical name of the item used for generating code or scripts, which may be abbreviated, and should not generally include spaces.
Comment Descriptive comment for the object.
Stereotype Extends the semantics of an object derived from existing objects but specific to your needs. You can type stereotypes directly in the Stereotype box of the object property sheet or select a value from the list if you have previously defined stereotypes in an embedded or imported extended model definition (.XEM).
Process or data store Replication process, transformation process or data store at one extremity of the data connection. You can use the tools to the right of the list to create an object, browse the complete tree of available objects or view the properties of the currently selected object.
Data store Data store at the other extremity of the data connection. You can use the tools to the right of the list to create an object, browse the complete tree of available objects or view the properties of the currently selected object.
Access Type Specifies a way to access data and determines the data connection direction. You can choose from the following options:

  • Write-only - Process to data store
  • Read only – Data store to process
  • Read/Write - Process to data store and data store to process on the same data connection
