Linking a component to a component instance

From a component instance property sheet, you can:

Link a component instance to an existing component
Create a component

To link a component to a component instance:

Select a component from the Component list in the property sheet of the component instance.

or

Click the Create tool beside the Component list to create a component and display its property sheet.

Define the properties of the new component and click OK.

The component name is displayed in the Component list.

Click OK.

The component instance name is displayed in the deployment diagram.

You can similarly view the component instance name in the component property sheet: click the Dependencies tab and select the Component Instances sub-tab. The component instance name is automatically added in this sub-tab.

Turning a component into a component instance
You can drag a component node from the Browser and drop it into the deployment diagram. You can also copy a component and paste it, or paste it as shortcut, into the deployment diagram. This automatically creates a component instance, instance of the component.
