Chapter 4 Building an Analysis Business Process Model

Process property sheet General tab

The General tab contains the following properties:

Property Description
Name The name of the item which should be clear and meaningful, and should convey the item's purpose to non-technical users
Code The technical name of the item used for generating code or scripts, which may be abbreviated, and should not generally include spaces
Comment Descriptive comment for the object
Stereotype Extends the semantics of an object derived from existing objects but specific to your needs. You can type stereotypes directly in the Stereotype box of the object property sheet or select a value from the list if you have previously defined stereotypes in an embedded or imported extended model definition (.XEM) or in the process language
Organization unit Optional element that allows you to define which organization is responsible for which process. You can select among the available organization units defined in the model, and assign the Committee Process value to a decomposed process to graphically show the links between organization units designed as swimlanes and sub-processes. You can click the Properties tool beside this box to display the property sheet of the selected organization unit or click the Ellipsis tool to open the list of organization units and create new ones
Timeout Zero is the default value. If the value is not set to zero, it means that a timeout exception occurs if the execution of the activation takes more than the specified timeout limit. You can type any alphanumeric value in the Timeout box (Example: 20 seconds)
Duration Specifies estimated or statistic duration to execute the action. This information is for documentation purposes only; estimate on the global duration is not computed
Decomposed status If you select the Decomposed process option, the process becomes a composite process. You can then create the same objects as in a business process diagram. If you select the Atomic task option, a confirmation dialog box asks you to confirm the objects deletion, the process becomes an atomic task, and all its child objects are deleted
Number ID This option helps you identify processes. 1 is the default value. You can modify this value at any time and type an integer greater than 0. All the processes you will create afterwards will be automatically numbered in ascending order. Number ID of the already created processes will not be impacted unless you use the Renumber Process IDs command by right-clicking the diagram background. This feature reorders processes number IDs and the process number ID you have changed become the last in the ascending order. This option is particularly useful when working with composite processes as child processes inherits the number ID of their parent process.
