Chapter 6 Managing Objects

Object comment

A comment describes an object. It provides more information than the name. For example "Organizing projects, employees, budgets" describes the model Project Management.

Comments are optional.

You define the comments of objects on property sheets and lists.

Comment in symbol

You can display the comment of most objects in their symbol in the diagram using the Comment option in the Display Preferences dialog box. This feature facilitates the readability of the object role within the model. Besides, you can edit the comment in place within the symbol. You have to type the ctrl+enter keys combination to create a new line

For CDM and PDM objects for example, this feature is particularly useful when importing a 4.x ERwin model, as the display level of comments in imported objects symbols in PowerDesigner matches the one in ERwin.

Beware that the following types of object symbols do not support this feature: symbols that display as icons such as OOM actors, custom shape symbols, composite symbols in object view mode and class symbols in OOM composite structure diagrams.
