Chapter 4 Setting up the Database Client

Installing the Adaptive Server Anywhere Client Software

You install the Adaptive Server Anywhere client on all machines that will access the database on the server machine.

ODBC interface

Adaptive Server Anywhere uses Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) as a standard interface for connecting client applications to database servers in Windows and Windows NT.

When you install an Adaptive Server client, you also install the appropriate ODBC driver that will be used to establish the connection to the database on the server.

An ODBC data source defines the connection parameters between an Adaptive Server Anywhere client and the database on the server.

For more information on the definition of a data source, see section Defining an ODBC Data Source

Note   ODBC drivers for other DBMS
In this manual, we exclusively refer to the installation of Adaptive Server Anywhere . If you are not using Adaptive Server Anywhere, you may have to install an appropriate driver to connect the client to the database on the server.
