Defining an ODBC data source in an ILM

You define an ODBC data source from the ODBC tab of the database property sheet using the Select an ODBC Data Source tool. The Select an ODBC Data Source dialog box is displayed. It contains the following parameters:

Parameter Description
Machine data source Name used to identify the ODBC data source. You must click the Down Arrowhead to select from the list
File data source Name of the file data source. You can type a name in the edit box or click the Select a File DSN to browse for a file (The Setup button becomes unavailable)
Setup Displays a list of available ODBC drivers
Add Displays the ODBC data source administration dialog box

Steps To define an ODBC data source:

  1. Open a database property sheet.
  2. Click the ODBC tab to display the corresponding tab.
  3. Click the Select an ODBC Data Source tool beside the Data Source box.

    The Select an ODBC Data Source dialog box is displayed.
  4. Select the Machine data source radio button.

    or

    Select the File data source radio button.
  5. Click the Add button to display the ODBC data source administration dialog box.
  6. Click the Setup button to display a list of available ODBC drivers.
  7. Select a driver and click the Finish button.

    A dialog box displays driver-dependent options.
  8. Type or select information required by the DBMS.
  9. Click OK in each dialog box.

Note   Connect command in contextual menu
You can also define an ODBC data source by right-clicking a database symbol in the diagram and select the Connect command.
