Applying a line style to symbols

You can modify the line style of any symbol in the model. However, in case of fundamental changes in the design semantics of a link symbol (such as a PDM reference for example), it automatically reapplies the default format for the link.

When you modify the line style of a symbol, your selection is saved in the current model and applies only to the current model. The line style applies to selected symbols. In addition, the choice of jagged, right sharp, right rounded, or waved lines apply to all new lines.

Line styles apply to different symbols, as follows:

Styles Applies style to ... Description

Lines and the outlines of shapes and symbols containing text Defines the thickness of a line

Lines and the outlines of shapes and symbols containing text Applies invisible, solid, dashed, and dotted lines

Lines drawn with Line or Polyline tools only Positions arrowhead at the beginning, the center and the end of lines

All lines Makes angles jagged, right sharp, right rounded or waved
Use perpendicular arrow All lines and links attached to a rectangle, a circle or an ellipse symbol Re-arranges the line or the link perpendicularly to the symbol edge. This option is only available for corner types that do not already offers perpendicular angles

This option applies to all lines and links attached to a rectangle, a circle or an ellipse symbol. It re-arranges the line or the link perpendicularly to the attached symbol edge. This option is only available for corner types that do not already offers perpendicular angles

Steps To apply a line style to a symbol:

  1. Select one or more symbols.
  2. Select Symbol→Format to display the Symbol Format dialog box.
  3. Click the Line Style tab.
  4. Click the Style list.
  5. Select a line style .
  6. Click OK.
