Chapter 16 The Generation Links Viewer
The Generation Links Viewer (GLV) provides a global view of all the generation links of a given model. It allows you to quickly identify the origin of each generated object in the current model or the derived objects of the current model. The GLV disallows any interaction on generation links.
It is available using the Tools→Generation Links→Origin Model command and the Tools→Generation Links→Derived Models command, provided that the current model has an origin and/or derived models.
The Generation Links Viewer–Origin Model displays the generation links of the current model with its origin model.
The Generation Links Viewer–Derived Models displays the generation links of the current model with its derived models.
Whatever the type of generation links you want to visualize, the Generation Links Viewer dialog box is divided in three parts:
Depending on whether you want to visualize the generation links of the current model with its origin model or with its derived models, the current model can either be displayed in the Target or in the Source pane. The current model owns the generation links details.
When a generation link exists between objects, it is materialized by a non-editable link with an arrow joining linked object icons, giving you a global graphical view. This link is only informative and the arrow specifies the direction of the generation.
A small symbol is placed on the bottom right-hand corner of the source and target linked objects icon and also on their respective parent hierarchy icon to ease readability
