Setting Up JDBC Database Drivers for Development

Sybase WorkSpace provides the following default drivers that are set up and ready to use:

Additionally, you can define additional drivers for JDBC connections to a database, message, or business process service, using the Driver Definitions Preferences dialog.

To set up a JDBC database driver:

  1. Open the Preferences dialog box. Select Window|Preferences from the main menu bar.

  2. Expand Sybase, Inc in the left pane, and select Driver Definitions to display the available driver definition templates in the right pane.

  3. Expand the Database category in the right pane.

  4. Set up a new driver using the driver templates. Do the following:

    1. Select JDBC from the list and click Add.

    2. Select a driver template from the list, select the Edit New Driver Instance Immediately checkbox to define the driver properties, and click OK.

    3. Define driver properties. Enter a unique driver name, use the following table to define additional driver properties, then click OK:

      1. Browse for a <database>.jar file. Click Add Jar/Zip.

      2. Define the driver class and default URL

      1. Browse for a <database>.jar file. Click Add Jar/Zip.

      1. Browse for a <database>.jar file. Click Add Jar/Zip.

      IBM DB2 UDB 7.2 JDBC

      1. Browse for a <database>.zip file. Click Add Jar/Zip.

      2. Define the driver class and default URL

      IBM DB2 UDB 8.1 JDBC

      1. Browse for a <database>.zip file. Click Add Jar/Zip.

      2. Define the driver class and default URL

      Microsoft SQL Server

      1. Browse for a <database>.jar file. Click Add Jar/Zip.

      2. Define the driver class and default URL

      Oracle

      1. Browse for a <database>.jar file. Click Add Jar/Zip.

      2. Define the driver class and default URL

      Sybase ASA

      Default driver. No action required.

      Sybase ASE

      Default driver. No action required.

      Sybase ASE XA

      Default driver. No action required.

      Sybase ASIQ

      Default driver. No action required.

  5. Click OK save your driver definition and close the dialog.
