Setting ASA Query Plan Preferences

Specify preferences for displaying Adaptive Server Anywhere execution plans in the Query Plan preference page.

To set Adaptive Server Anywhere Query Plan preferences:

Select Window|Preferences from the main menu bar.
The Preferences dialog box appears.
Expand Sybase, Inc in the left pane.
Select Database Development|Query Plan.
Select a plan display orientation:
- Vertical orientation displays top to bottom
- Horizontal orientation displays left to right (default)
Select the action taken on an error during SQL Execution Plan explanation.
- Always—Always continues execution when an error occurs.
- Never—Always stops execution when an error occurs.
- Prompt—Interrupts execution on each error, displaying a dialog to resume execution.
Click the Adaptive Server Anywhere_9.x tab.
Choose whether to show the query plan in the Execution Plan view while executing SQL statements.
With this option checked you see actual statistics as the query executes.
Whether you select this option or not, you can get an execution plan from the SQL Editor with estimated statistics.

Adaptive Server Anywhere Query Plan Options

Field	Description
Short Description	Select when you want to compare plans quickly.
Long Description	Provides slightly more information than Short Description. Easy to print and view.
Graphics Plan	Displays execution plan information in graphic format. Default.
Graphics Plan with Statistics	Similar to Graphics Plan but also displays actual runtime costs of executing the statement.
UltraLite Short Description	Displays UltraLite plan optimization strategy in short text format.
UltraLite Short Description	Displays UltraLite plan optimization strategy in long text format.
UltraLite Graphics Plan	Displays UltraLite plan optimization strategy in graphic format.
